There is some difference between gynecomastia and pseudogynecomastia: the first one is caused by hormonal imbalance, the second one is caused by excess of body fat.
First, did you know that approximately 40% to 60% of the male population suffers from a medical condition called gynecomastia? Although it affects a significant percentage of the male population, many are still not aware of what this condition actually is.
Some don't even know they suffer from it, especially obese men. Usually we associate the presence of female breasts with obesity, but in some cases, there may be hidden causes (typically hormonal) that trigger its development.
What is the Difference Between Gynecomastia and Pseudogynecomastia?
As we said before, there is some basic difference between gynecomastia and pseudogynecomastia, and technically speaking, in most cases man boobs can be classified into one of these two types.
Gynecomastia is the most common between the two.
It is characterized by the development of male breasts similar to female breasts, caused by the abnormal enlargement of the mammary glands. There are many factors that can influence the abnormal growth of breasts in males.
Before looking at ways to reduce it, it is vital that you understand what the causes are.
The development of man gynecomastia is typically associated with the testosterone and estrogen imbalance in the male body. Normally, males produce estrogen in very low quantities (being a hormone prevalent in women).
But with gynecomastia, the body has extremely high levels of estrogen and extremely low levels of testosterone. When this happens, the male breast will enlarge abnormally and even hurt at times.
Although gynecomastia often affects teenage boys in their puberty, children and elderly men can also be affected.
Pseudogynecomastia, on the other hand, may seem very similar to gynecomastia, but the breast enlargement is generally caused by the presence of adipose tissue in excess, rather than by the growth of the glandular tissue.
Simply, this type of man boobs is usually caused by the buildup of fat around the male breasts. The best way to eliminate this type of gynecomastia is through exercise and diet.
Another difference between gynecomastia and pseudogynecomastia is that the second is much easier to treat.
The surgery, is a common surgical procedure used in the treatment of pseudogynecomastia.
It is best to consult a doctor to determine exactly the type of your problem. You will have to make a series of medical tests and examinations to determine if you suffer from gynecomastia or pseudogynecomastia.
